Two weeks ago, nobody outside the MMA community knew who Khamzat Chimaev was. The Chechnya-born welterweight has quickly become the center of attention in a matter of 10 days.
Chimaev fought two weeks ago and won via submission, he got right back in the octagon just 10 days after his win and mauled his opponent with stikes winning by submission.
His UFC record is now 2-0 and it looks like his destruction will continue as he has landed 192 stikes on his opponents and absorbed just two.
Just like that, he emerged as the top up-and-coming stars on the entire UFC roster. Chimaev has even gained the attention of Conor McGregor.
The UFC Instagram page posted a video of the post-fight interview with Khamzat Chimaev. We heard Khamzat claiming, “Everybody knows these guys are not my level.” He went on with it, “I can fight in one hour, if somebody is interested, tell me, I am here in Abu Dhabi.”
Conor McGregor commented on the post “Rat lip.” The comment was later deleted but not until hundreds of thousands of users saw it.
A user managed to screenshot the post and the response from Chimaev.
Whether or not Conor made the post to mock the rising star or to steal the spotlight, fans took notice and the altercation has gained traction on social media.
The Russian also told MMA Junkie, “Of course it’s easy for me. … I like to fight, taking the cage and smash somebody. It’s too easy. Too easy to smash somebody and get money. Perfect for me.” He has shown interest in fighting Mike Perry or Damien Maia.
Who will be next for Chimaev?
