“Jorge Masvidal misses a really big opportunity”-Daniel Cormier

The welterweight title is up for grabs on July 11th at Fight Island. The champion, Kamaru Usman, will be defending his title against No. 1 contender Gilbert Burns.

This leaves many questions in the welterweight division. What happens to Jorge Masvidal? Jorge Masvidal vs. Kamaru Usman was expected to be the fight to make for the welterweight strap.

Jorge Masvidal has been in a public dispute with the UFC regarding pay and it seems he will be sidelined for now. Many fighters, media members, and fans have given their opinion on the current state of the welterweight division.

On the DC and Helwani show. The former UFC light-heavy weight and heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, gave his take.

“The other day I saw Mr. Masvidal right. He said, I appreciate all you guys that supported me. But at the end of the day now he’s not getting his title shot and he’s not getting his money. So yea, thanks for all the support but are you guys going to cut him a check for $2 million dollars I think is what he was reported for the Diaz fight.”

Daniel added, “I wanted to see him fight for the belt. I do believe that he misses a really big opportunity. The reality is this, I want Jorge Masvidal to get his money, I do want him to get his money. All I’m saying is there’s just better ways to go about it. That’s all I’ve said for weeks.

Go talk about it directly, deal with it, that’s how I would do it, that’s all I’m saying. Look, don’t listen to me, I’m only the guy that’s gotten every single opportunity that I have tried to get or asked for. I’ve gotten paid fairly, I’m just that guy,” said Cormier on DC and Helwani.

Masdival is coming off the biggest year in his career. In 2019, he went 3-0 and secured “The Fighter of the Year” award. We are now half way through 2020 and he we have yet to see him fight.

The future of Jorge remains uncertain. Perhaps, the UFC and his management can come to an agreement. Will “Gamebred” fight this year? Or will he sit out like many fighters have elected to do?
