During the current global pandemic many fighters have voiced their interest to fight on Fight Island. Many matchups have already been announced and many more are in the works.

In the lightweight division, the champion Khabib will most likely fight top contender Justin Gaethje who is coming off a 5th round TKO of former No. 1 lightweight contender Tony Ferguson. UFC President Dana White has already vocalized his intent to make that fight later this summer. That would leave Conor McGregor out of a title fight in the lightweight division.

At welterweight, it seems the fight to make between champion Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masdival has hit a roadblock and the UFC is now looking for alternate opponents.

Jorge Masvidal took to twitter and wrote, “Lets run it back #theresurrection #andstill,” calling out Nate Diaz. Looks as though he is pursuing a fight with Diaz instead.

Their first fight was a huge fight and the second would be an even bigger fight if the UFC does follow through with it.  The welterweight division seems to be in a strange place.

Colby Covington would most likely not get the rematch after losing to the champion in December of 2019. Travel restrictions would prevent Lion Edwards from fighting and Tyron Woodley has a fight fight this Saturday.

This leaves Conor with an opportunity to jump into a huge fight as he has for most of his career. Kamaru’s manager came out and stated he would offer that fight to Conor. In a crazy turn of events Conor may get the opportunity to fight for the welterweight title and perhaps become the first and only UFC triple division champion.

Of course, nothing is confirmed or signed yet. But there is a possibility we can see that match at welterweight.

Yet again, Conor could come in to save the show as he has many times in his UFC career.

A betting line even opened up in Vegas favoring the champion 3:1.

Chael Sonnen did mention after Conor’s win over Cowboy at UFC 248 in Jan that Conor was now the No.1 contender at welterweight.

A match against the welterweight champ would undoubtedly be the biggest fight to make at this time.
