Dana White’s Contender Series fighter suffers gruesome injury, Dana White reacts

UFC’s newest hit show, Dana White’s Contender Series has produced top-notch talent and exciting fights since its inaugural season back in May 2017.

This week’s Contender Series 28 featured 5 bouts. The fight between Dustin Stoltzfus and Joe Pyfer started up strong. As the action was starting to heat up, the fight came to a screeching halt.

The back-and-forth action early in the fight promised to continue through the fight until Stoltzfus and Pyfer clinched. Stoltzfus was able to get a hold Pyfer and elevated him for the takedown.

As the fighters landed, Pyfer tried to break the fall by extending his arm out. The momentum Stolzfus was carrying drove Pyfer into the mat.

As a result, Pyfer’s arm hyperextended and bent his arm at a very disturbing angle. Once the referee noticed the arm extend in the wrong direction, the fight was called off immediately.

Pyfer only had three words to say following the official decision, “This sucks, bro,” he said. It’s safe to say this is one of the most gruesome injuries we have seen inside the octagon.

Due to the dislocated elbow, Stoltzfus was awarded a first-round TKO.

The night concluded with all five winners at the Contender Series Season 4: Week 2 walked away with UFC contracts.

Dustin Stolzfus, Impa Kasanganay, TJ Laramie, Cory McKenna, and Adrian Yanez are all heading to the UFC.

The weekly competition, Dana White’s contender series, is focused on finding new up-and-coming talent for the UFC.

As with the earlier web series “Looking for a Fight,” White has scouted top talent and awarded several UFC contracts.

The Contender Series is licensed separately from the UFC. Dana White applied for a promoter’s license and has stated, “this is not the UFC, this is not the UFC brand, but instead, a promotion that will allow up and coming fighters the chance to showcase their talents in hopes that one day they may compete in the UFC.”
