Jon Jones issues $100,000 challenge

It came as a surprise to everyone when Jon Jones announced that he has vacated the UFC light heavyweight title he has held for nearly a decade.

“It’s officially up for grabs,” Jones wrote of the UFC light heavyweight title. “It’s been an amazing journey, sincere thank you to all my competition, Ufc and most importantly you fans.”

In a subsequent tweet, Jones wrote that he will have negotiations with the UFC on a potential fight at heavyweight.

“Just had a really positive conversation with @Ufc,” Jones wrote. “Sounds like there will be negotiations for my next fight at heavyweight. All good news, the weight gaining process begins.”

Jones doesn’t think anyone will come close to beating his record for most title defenses in UFC history and he’s willing to bet on it.

He announced a bet to any future champion to complete six consecutive title defenses. Jones wanted to challenge fighters to break his record.

The reward: a $100,000 donation to the charity of the champion’s choosing.

“Was going to challenge a light heavyweight to beat my world championship record but we all know that’s probably not happening in this lifetime,” Jones wrote on Twitter.

“First light heavyweight to win six championships in a row I’ll pay $100,000 to whatever charity of their liking. I’ll be waiting.”

“Was going to challenge a light heavyweight to beat my world championship record but we all know that’s probably not happening in this lifetime.”

“Seriously, I challenge you guys to go out there and be great too. It’s going to be awesome watching with that cheeseburger in my hand.”

In his most recent fight, Jones defeated top contender Dominick Reyes in what many considered a controversial decision at UFC 247 in February.

UFC President has publicly stated that he thought Reyes had won and deserved a rematch. The UFC is rumored to announce a light heavyweight to determine the next champion.
