Floyd “Money” Mayweather teases return

Floyd “Money” Mayweather has become part of the MMA world as much as some may hate to admit it.

Over the past few years, talks have surfaced of the undefeated boxer stepping into the octagon.

In 2016, Conor McGregor became the first simultaneous two-division UFC champion. Mayweather and McGregor began trash-talking and publicly calling each other out to fight.

Conor wanted Mayweather in the octagon but Mayweather wanted a boxing match. The “Money fight” was an idea that most thought would never happen. Somehow the fight was made and pulled over four million pay-per-view buys.

Since then, Mayweather has teased a second fight but this time inside the octagon.

Speaking with Forbes, Mayweather teased a return to the ring later this year or in 2021.

“We’re working on some things right now for Tokyo, whether 2020 or 2021,” Mayweather said.

Mayweather continually teased crossover fights in MMA but after the boxing fight with McGregor occurred talks stopped.

Mayweather confirmed he will never make the jump to MMA.

“No [I won’t compete in MMA],” Mayweather said. “I think just like how winning teams receive home-field advantage in the playoffs… you don’t fix what isn’t broken, and my record isn’t broken.”

Mayweather is currently retired but a rematch against McGregor may be appealing enough to lure both men back into the ring.

“For now, I’m happily retired,” Mayweather said. “You never know, but it would have to be worth it. Just like gambling right? Juice worth the squeeze no matter who the opponent is.”
