Fight Island location leaked

The concept of “Fight Island” has been teased by the UFC for the past few weeks.

Many have speculated the veracity of the island.

But the location is no longer a mystery the location has been released. We now have a time and place.

Fight island will be hosted in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The UFC has hosted international fights in Abu Dhabi before, mostly recently UFC 242. The card was headlined by lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier, which occured September of 2018.

The exact location was not disclosed but Yas Island could be the island. The UFC has hosted three events on the island before.

Yas Island is home to the Du Arena, an open air arena with a 25,000 spectator capacity. Should Yas become confirmed as the location for the event, it is expected to be held without an audience due to current COVID-19 restrictions.

First reported by Combate’s Marcelo Russio, Abu Dhabi was selected due to having fewer travel restrictions pertaining to international-flights, as passengers are not obligated to comply with the 14-day self isolation quarantine period. Although precautions will still be taken, their poloices only recommend that travelers be self quarantined until the COVID-19 test results return.

Abu Dhabi will host the first fight island card scheduled for June 27 and is expected to be headlined by Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker.

Several other fights have been announced for fight island, recently, the UFC announced a huge heavyweight bout between Alexander Gustaffson vs. Fabricio Werdum. Gustaffson is coming out of retirement and title contention could be on the horizon for the winner of this fight.

UFC President Dana White spoke with TMZ before the release of the location and said “The FANTASY of Fight Island,” Dana explained, “I’m very worried it will eclipse the REALITY of Fight Island.”

“The fighters are not going to walk out lined up with tiki torches on the side. I will not be sitting in a big thrown overseeing the octagon and watching the fight.”

So, what will Fight Island look like? Dana explained on “TMZ Live.”

“We actually have an arena. We built a little arena there that’s very, very cool … The fighters will have their own private places to train. And, there will be an octagon on the beach too!”

As end of June nears, we all await in anticipation for the spectacle of “Fight Island.”
