Fan losses $25,000 betting on Agapova vs. Dobson at UFC Vegas 7

In Mixed Martial Arts, anything can happen inside the octagon. One of the biggest upsets in UFC history went down Saturday night at UFC Vegas 7.

In the women’s flyweight division, Mariya Agapova took on Shana Dobson. Agapova came into the fight riding a massive hype train. She came in as the -1400 favorite to win.

We knew the hype was strong but the odds makers had the fight -1400 to +800 in favor of Agapova.

To put that into perspective, you’d have needed to bet $1,400 on Agapova to make $100 if she had won.

According to sports business reporter Darren Rovell, a bettor placed a whopping $25,000 bet on Agapova. The bettor would have only made $1,775 at those odds. Yes, you read that right.

Unfortunately, for the bettor, Dobson pulled off the upset and lost the bet.

Dobson pulled off one of the biggest upsets in UFC history. She survived an early onslaught from Agapova in the first round and took Agapova down and finished her with vicious gound-and-pound in the second round.

Dobson spoke to reporters after the fight and gave her thoughts on the bet.

“I stumbled upon the odds last week when I was trying to bet, trying to make some money on the fights last week,” Dobson said during the UFC Vegas 7 post-fight press conference. “And I was like ‘Damn, they really done me!’ So you know, that was a little more fuel in the tank for me.”

Her message for the anonymous bettor that lost all that money?

“Damn. Sorry man,” she said with a laugh. “If you bet $25,000 on me, hit me up. Cash at me, gimme some of that!”
