UFC President reveals plans to promote Floyd Mayweather fight, ‘Floyd wants to fight’

UFC President Dana White and retired boxer Floyd Mayweather have been in talks for the past several months now.

Dana White recently teased a potential co-promotion event in the works. The two are still talking business.

Prior to the pandemic, Floyd Mayweather and Dana White were spotted together at an NBA game in Los Angeles last November.

The picture of the two was trending on social media and it was later confirmed that the two parties were talking business during the game.

Yesterday, White confirmed talks are still underway. During an Instagram Live stream with Yahoo! Sports, White admitted Mayweather’s interest to fight one more time.

“Floyd wants to fight,” White said. “… He wants to fight. We’re going to probably … Listen: I’m dealing with all the (expletive) that’s going on with 2020 right now. Floyd and I want to work together. We want to do something. We’re going to do something. I just need a little more time to get my (expletive) together.”

White did not go into detail as to who the opponent would be or whether it would be in boxing or MMA.

Mayweather is now 43 years old and hasn’t competed in a professional fight since 2017 against Conor McGregor.

White isn’t concerned whether age will play a factor in Mayweather’s return.

“No, it doesn’t concern me, but those are things that will all factor into the fight,” White said. “Those are all things that will factor into the fight, 100 percent. … I don’t know. Those are questions that will be answered when you put the fight on. The Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight was the perfect storm. That thing was built from the fans to the media and became what it became.”

“I know [Mayweather] would rematch Conor McGregor, but I don’t know if you heard about this, but Conor McGregor’s retired,” White said. “When I’m doing things right now and running business, I don’t even think about Conor. Conor is retired. As of right here now today, Conor is retired until Conor tells me differently, I’m not trying to make any fights for Conor.”

Of course, many have speculated whether he would fight Conor McGregor again for the rematch but White had few words to say regarding a Mcgregor vs. Mayweather rematch.

When asked about Conor McGregor, White had a simple answered

“Conor McGregor is retired,” White said. “Yes, Conor McGregor is retired.”
