UFC President Dana White announces Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz 2 ‘in the works’ for BMF title

A little over a year ago, the UFC announced an unprecedented event and the creation of the “BMF” title.

Jorge Masvidal won the inaugural title and he is close to defending his belt against a familiar opponent.

Following Tuesday night’s DWCS Season 4: Week 5 event at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Dana White spoke to reporters and addressed a rumor by TMZ that the rematch between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz was on for the BMF belt in January.

White confirmed that the fight is being targeted but no deal has been made yet.

“It’s being worked on,” White told reporters. “That fight is in the works.”

The BMF title fight was supposed to be a one-time fight but Masvidal wants to give Diaz a rematch.

“He wants to defend it against Diaz,” White explained. “They were the first two to fight for it. They were the guys that fought for it so he wants to put it up versus Nate, again.”

Leon Edwards was not happy with the announcement as he was campaigning for a title shot or a fight with Masvidal.

White confirmed a fight will be made for Edwards sooner rather than later.

“He’s a guy that we’re absolutely gonna make a fight for,” White stated. Anything can happen with the guys in the top-five. Any of these guys can get a title shot. You never know this thing will play out.”

Masvidal and Diaz will most likely kick off 2021 for the UFC. When asked whether a live gate could be possible, White responded.

“I’m not thinking about fans at all,” White said. “It’s September and we’ll see how the next three, four months play out.

“I have this funny feeling things are gonna change a lot after November.”
