Mike Tyson calls out Jon Jones for $100 million super-fight
UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, has been in a public dispute with the UFC regarding pay for the past month. Jones has even threatened to retire and stay sidelined until the UFC wants to pay him. Jones is tired of fighting contenders for the same pay.
Historically, “super-fights” bring in massive paychecks for the UFC and fighters. The UFC model of super-fights is slowly fading away. A super-fight and a massive paycheck is exactly what Jon Jones is looking to capitalize on. He may have found one against an unlikely opponent.
Boxing heavyweight legend, Mike Tyson, appeared on a social media live stream with Charlie Mack for his latest “Brotherly Love” show. Tyson spoke about several topics including the UFC, coronavirus pandemic, and a potential return to fighting.
Mike argued that the current UFC light heavyweight champion is arguably the greatest of all time but would never make a massive paycheck until he fought him.
“A UFC [fighter] will never be richer than a first class [boxer],” Tyson said. “To make a hundred million dollars, Conor [McGregor] had to fight Floyd [Mayweather]!
“Even if he fights Jon Jones, he’s not going to get that. Jon Jones gotta fight me if he wants to make some super money.”
“Listen to this, UFC is more popular than boxing, right? Higher ratings, right? But a UFC fighter will never be richer than a first-class fighter. To make a $100 million, Conor McGregor had to fight Floyd Mayweather. Jon Jones got to fight me if he wants to make some super money, “ Mike explained.
Jon Jones did not hesitate to respond and tweeted back.

“Mike Tyson — I’ll box you in the ring if you promise to give me a real fight in the octagon afterwards,” Jones wrote on Instagram. “And because I respect you so much, I promise I won’t break anything on you.”
Mike Tyson has yet to respond to Jones. While the super fight between Jon Jones and Mike Tyson is highly unlikely, the UFC light heavyweight champion took his opportunity to hype a potential matchup with one of boxing’s greatest fighters.
Will Jon return to the octagon anytime soon? Will he move up to heavyweight to fight Francis Ngannou?
