Fan bets $37,000 on UFC newcomer

The UFC newcomer, Kay Hensen, made her debut with the leader in Mixed Martial Arts last Saturday at UFC on ESPN 12. Hansen pulled off an armbar in the third round to win her first fight in the UFC.

Hansen got the victory, the win bonus, and she also made a fan very happy.

A $37,000 bet was placed at the MGM sportsbook on Kay Hansen to beat her opponent Jinh Yu Frey on Saturday night. The winning purse would be $20,000.

“I saw that about 45 minutes before my fight,” admitted the impressively durable newcomer. “That’s a lot of money to bet on someone making their UFC debut but congrats to them, I guess.

“I was like, ‘what the…?’ It didn’t put any pressure on me because that’s your choice. I’m not responsible for fulfilling that. It is cool to see people putting that kind of faith in me in a way, I guess.

“That’s so crazy to me. I mean, I don’t know who did it.”

Funny enough, Hansen ended up meeting the mystery man at the airport after the fight. Mr. $37,000 produced his betting slip to prove he was indeed the “big baller.”

Hansen took a picture with a fan and posted it via Twitter.

Hansen took the fight on a six days’ notice while at a Starbucks. Following her win, she also received a message of support form the former women’s bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey.

“I’ve been getting stitched up this whole time, so I haven’t even had a chance to even look at my phone yet, but that’s awesome – veterans supporting young guns,” Hansen said afterward. “It’s all a cycle, and there’s going to be little girls under me one day, and I think it’s great that we support each other that way.”

Kay is now 7-3 in her professional career riding a three-fight win streak. She is now the second-youngest fighter in the UFC.

What’s next for the 20-year old? She will likely be placed on a medical suspension after suffering a cut above the eyebrow.

What are your thoughts on the insane bet placed by the fan?
