Alexander Gustaffson comes back from retirement
One of the greatest light heavyweights of all time returns for “Fight Island.”
Former UFC light heavyweight title contender, Alexander Gustaffson, returns from retirement just after a year.
Gustafson announced his retirement few months ago and has come out of retirement to move up to heavyweight to face former UFc heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum.
Gustaffson, mostly notably, fought the UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones on two occasions. Many believed he edged the champion in their first fight.
Gustaffson looks to reinvent himself in the heavyweight division. He will face former UFC heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum, on fight island on July 18
Combate was the first to report the booking of this main event.
Both fights look to get back on track and secure a win. A title contention fight may be in the horizon for the winner of this fight.
Werdum is coming off a split-decision loss to Aleksei Oleinik. The bout was a hard fought three round war, Werdum didn’t manage to get the win.
Gustaffson is also coming off a loss to Anthony Smith back in the main event of UFC Stockholm in June 2019. Alexander announced his retirement shortly after the loss.
Many believed he would eventually return. “The Mauler” will return for his 17th octagon appearance and will look to get into title contention for the UFC Heavyweight strap.
