The UFC show continues for UFC 250, a pay- per- view event this Saturday that will take place at the UFC APEX facility in las Vegas Nevada.
The card is headlined by featherweight and bantamweight women’s champion Amanda Nunes. Nunes will be defending her featherweight strap against Felicia Spencer and will mark her second title defense at featherweight. Amanda is one of the few champions to have defended both belts successfully.
The card was previously scheduled to take place on May 9 at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil. Amid the pandemic the UFC has been doing shows for Las Vegas.
The main card opens up with Sean o’malley. Sean is coming off a first round TKO in March and has done a quick turnaround to face a huge challenge in the bantamweight division against former title contender Eddie Wineland. The “Sugar show” is eager to get back in the octagon again after a 2 year layoff.
The Co-main event is headlined by two top 10 bantamweight ranked fighters. Former UFC bantamweight champion, Cody Gardbrant, is on a journey to regain the title.
In a recent interview with mmafighting.com Cody stated, “I’ve battled my demons. I’m here to take the throne again. Whoever that is when my time comes for another title shot, I’ll be ready. I’m going to capitalize on it. I’m going to hold onto this title until it’s time to walk away from this sport.”
He will be facing a tough top 5 contender Raphael Assuncao. Assuncao has been at the top of the division for years and if you can get past him you are within title reach. This fight has big title contender implications.
Cody added, “This is where I start the road back to the top. For me, I’m in the sport to be the best,” Garbrandt said. “It was never chasing money. I never even thought of money until I got money. It was like ‘oh sh*t I won some fights and here’s some money.’ That’s cool, that’s a plus side to it but money was never the motivating factor. It was always being the best. That’s my quest to get back to the title. I wanted to be the best in the world. I worked towards that. Dreamed of that. That was what was pushing me. This sport is a marathon, not a sprint. Just like life.
“I’ve battled my demons. I’m here to take the throne again. Whoever that is when my time comes for another title shot, I’ll be ready. I’m going to capitalize on it. I’m going to hold onto this title until it’s time to walk away from this sport.”
The other bantamweight fight on the cards is between Aljamain Sterling and Cory Sandhagen.
The two winners might very well meet down the road for a title contention No 1 contender match to fight the winner of Jose Aldo and Petr Yan.
